Ice Cream Monster Strikes at Lunch

It's 2nd February. Dang, i've missed the Baskin Robbins 31% discount on handpacked ice-cream promo that happens on the 31st of every month that has 31 days.

We're so spoilt for choice. When I was a kid, Walls and Magnolia were the luxury brands. Most of the time we had to content ourselves with the orange frozen ice sticks and dunno-what-brand 20 sen ice-cream on wafer cones that are sold by the ling-ling ice-cream man. The height of decadence was to have that same dunno-what-brand ice-cream with some kind of chiffony bread.

Currently my favourite tub ice-cream brands are Sara Lee, Cadbury and Walls. Sara Lee costs RM15-RM16 for 1.5 litres, Cadbury is RM28 for 2 litres and good ol' Walls is about RM6 for 2 litres.

Then I discovered one of Life's little secret pleasures. The magic of Walls' Paddle Pop Lion and Nestle's Mat Kool! For a mere RM1, you get a whole lotta fun and yum on a stick.

From Paddle Pop, there's:-

Gummy Ocean...a light-blue (the same colour as blue liquid dynamo) creamy (Paddle Pop's creamy ice-creams are incredibly fluffy!) ice-cream with colourful bits of jelly scattered throughout.

Hip Hop Jelly - A peach-apple flavoured, Incredible Hulk-green frozen jelly which once unfrozen (and unbitten) flops around jelly-ly and just a tad bit obscenely.

From Mat Kool, I recommend:-

Lidah Jeli - The original dunno-what-flavoured frozen jelly that Paddle Pop must have copied the concept from. It's long and red and definately flops about very obscenely when unfrozen. And the texture when you bite into it (after it's unfrozen) is like biting a tongue.

Dynamite - This is truly truly THE ice-cream to eat if that inner child in you is feeling all whiney and restless. It's brown (Cola flavour) and white (lime flavour) ice with a chunk of orange goo in the middle. This orange goo is amazing. It's made of pop rocks...a kind of candy that starts to pop and crackle inside your mouth on contact with saliva. Get enough of it in your mouth and it'll sound and feel like you've got sparklers in your mouth. Major cool!!

Just had a Dynamite during lunch. Yum.
