The Pirate and His Princess.
(1990)
He, by nature, a man of the sea
a wandering spirit in search of dreams.
Fame he has, a wealth in gold
Yet love eludes his restless soul.
She, a princess of regal grace,
A flash of light
in velvet night.
O Raging sea, its swirling depths,
reflect the storm which binds her heart.
'What ship," she cries, "dares sail these parts?"
A pirate. A princess.
Two worlds of vast difference.
A tempest brews
Death waits in the distance.
The pounding waves fuel his burning passion
Two lovers meet
Fate begs compassion.
Together they sail the violent calm,
Solitude drowns in love's sweet balm.
Alas! The people rage
while suitors vie
The pirate's love is doomed to die.
The dream dissolves
as night enters day,
With the sea in his eyes
he sails away.

beautiful though - such poignant sadness. [why is it i'm always attracted to the bittersweet stories?? they just makes me sad!!!]
shouldn't YOU be working too? :)
thanks. it's the essence of a loner doomed to covet what he can never have. before he found mittened beavers, of course.
Reminds me of a romance book that I read a LONG time ago - The Pirate & the Pagan :) This is the first pirate poem I've read.
Amelia - Glad it evokes a sense of romance. It's the first poem i ever wrote. Am particularly pleased with the cadence. Pagan - how i love this word!
