Oh, and I also made this. It's Rohani Jelani's rendang recipe. Damn shyiok. Attended her class almost a year ago and it's the first time I've made it since. Just being in her arm-leg-&-first-born-sacrifice-inducing kitchen was already worth the fees; the mouthwateringly deliciousness of this rendang is a bonus.
I used chicken, the recipe works for beef as well. If you want the recipe, be prepared to wait...needs to be typed out and I'm lazy. Sorry.

pickyin - One day lah, when Snowie & I do this full time. You might get hungry waiting though. :) Ah, but here's the recipe for the rendang, earlier than anticipated cos I found it on the Net! Yay me.
ROHANI JELANI'S BEEF RENDANG
Ingredients
500g (approx. 1 lb) lean beef (use a stewing cut) cubed
1 cup grated fresh coconut
15 - 20 dried chillies
15 shallots
2-cm (1-inch) piece old ginger
2-cm (1-inch) piece galangal
3 stalks lemon grass (white section only)
1-cm (1/2-inch) piece fresh turmeric root
600ml (approx. 2 1/3 cups) fresh coconut milk (squeezed from 1 1/2 coconuts)
1 - 2 pieces asam gelugor / asam keping (dried tamarind skin)
1 small turmeric leaf - shredded
2 kaffir lime leaves
2 tsp salt (or to taste)
2 tsp sugar (or to taste)
Instructions
1. Prepare the kerisik (dry roasted grated coconut) by placing the grated fresh coconut into a DRY wok over low heat. Do not add any oil. Toss and stir the grated coconut over low heat until the coconut is crisp and golden brown. Remove from heat. Cool slightly then grind it finely in a food processor. Set aside.
3. Cut the dried chillies into 3-cm (1 1/2-inch) lengths. Soak in warm water for 15 mins until softened. Scrape the skin from the ginger, galangal and turmeric root. Cut the ginger, galangal, lemon grass and turmeric root into slices. Drain and grind chillies in a blender / food processor together with the ginger, galangal, lemon grass and turmeric root with enough water for the blades to work. Grind until you get a fine paste.
4. Place the beef, ground chilli paste and coconut wok in a large wok. Bring mixture to boil then reduce to a simmer. Stir occasionally until most of the coconut milk has evaporated - a red film of oil will rise to the surface.
5. Add the asam gelugor, shredded turmeric leaf, kaffir lime leaves and kerisik. Mix well. Season with salt and sugar. Simmer another 5 mins.
boobs - There is one left over...it tergolek on the floor for a bit, but still looks ok. Want?
nut - Heheh...eh..we suppose to meet up again sometime...so said kotak botak.
biow - HOURS. Heh. Waitlah, for snowie's write-up.
The cake plates are actually 3 separate ones. Quite heavy, so is stable. I say wrong oredi...it was 30% off. Paid RM128. Nice hor?
separate ones are good!! configurable!! can make 2 tier, 1 tier.. RM128 is a steal!!
hours ah.. i thought DAYS!.. okie will wait for snowie's write-up..
still amazed!!
I wanna try your muffins too but I think snowie would kill me if I did that :P
But good God, what enterprising lil farm animals!
Paul
my god...i'm salivating madly. That chicken looks so sinful!
wow, soooo impressed. are those to give away or for sale?
yar, how long to bake 230 muffins ah? i kinda volunteered to do for my church vacation bible school for the kids..also that kinda quantum. will i need to take a week off?
Forgot to tell that i like the pix from the materials to the beautiful output. i may have missed the buying materials and baking session but i saw the best part of it when giving out to my clients!!! All with wide smiles (can see the yellow and white gigi also) and very happy to receive something unexpectedly, yet so pretty & delicious.
biow - Ya, see how I used one plate to hold up one of the boxes for the photo? I so lurrrve my plates until can cry :)
paul - uh...yeah. You confuse me lah! Or am I confusing you? Hehehe.
ivan - hello, thanks and welcome! There, got recipe, trylah. We sin together. :)
fatboy - They were for sale. No need until take one week off lah, hehe... go read about the process in Snowie's blog (the link is on my sidebar and within this post itself). I think your wedding cake prbably took longer.
aiyoh on the day i am fasting i have to read your blog lah. lapar.
you did quite a bit more that the maid thing, dearie... and without you, (a) i'd have been in a lot more pain; (b) i'd have taken wayyyyyy longer; and (c) it would not have been half as much fun :)
biow & fatboy: it took about 25 mins per tray of 12 muffins ( we did 24 trays in all), plus time to measure out ingredients, and of course the unavoidable shopping, packaging, cleaning.... and the hiau stuff like tying ribbons and making our own not-very-strong-but-pretty bags... all in all, say 15 to 20 hours lah. you won't need all week, fatboy. especially not with all your experience. the wedding cake DEFINITELY took longer :)
kiut - Eh, when I posted my comment yours wasn't on yet.
I agree, it's seeing the appreciation of the recipient that is very shyiok too. Glad you enjoyed that.
lil ms. d - Sorreeee! Then you better not see snowie's blog before buka. Haha. Congratulations(?) on the new column in the Star!
snowie - "Multiply life by the power of two" eh?
The house is so empty without those 280 babies...
